Sample InquiryThis page presents the text you can use to ask an ezine publisher whether they honor Ezine Privacy. You are welcome to use and adapt this sample in any way that suits you. We always appreciate receiving a copy of your inquiry as well as a copy of their response. You can email your copy here: But take out the part that says -NOSPAM. Putting that part in is called "munging". The idea is to let you know the address but to fool an address harvester.
Dear Sir: I was considering signing up for your ezine. I noticed that you offer an HTML version and because I am concerned with Ezine Privacy, I wanted to check on your privacy practices before I sign up for the HTML version. Some ezine publishers use HTML email to track their email marketing campaigns. For example, they use web bugs (and similar techniques) to track how many of their emails get opened and when. They may also code their links in order to track click-through patterns. However, some ezine publishers go beyond this legitimate tracking. Some ezine publishers not only track overall campaign performance, they use tracking tools to track individual subscriber behavior. They can tell whether an individual subscriber has opened an email, and if so, how many times and when. They track individual subscriber click-through patterns on their website. In other words, they combine their tracking with the Personal Identifying Information (PII) the maintain about their subscribers. I am writing to find out if you do this. Do you track open and click behaviors of individual subscribers? If you do, is this disclosed in your privacy policy? If you don't, you might want to consider posting the Ezine Privacy Button on your site to assure subscribers that you do not. Thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing back from you. PS: You can find out more about Ezine Privacy and the Ezine Privacy Button from EzinePrivacy.org at http://EzinePrivacy.org. |
